@kdfrawg The ability to drive, and to do anything on arrival gave out at about the same time for my father. My mother still wants to get to places and can manage when she does,, but isn’t confident on the roads.

@hazardwarning It’s not just the spares — it’s 19 years old, so it might start showing its age, and new emissions regulations could be a problem.

@hazardwarning The Saab place we use has always been good, and very reasonably priced, it’s just that it’s on the outskirts of Bristol, so the traffic’s awful. They were always a second hand car dealer, so there’s more workshop and less glitzy showroom. And, of course, once Saab went out of business, it was really useful to have somewhere that could still get replacement parts.
I suppose we’ll have to get a new car one day.

@hazardwarning When I lived in a village and had the car serviced at the local station, it was just round the corner and all I had to do was post the keys through their door and they’d pick the car up and put it back in my garage when they’d finished. Who said big towns were more convenient?

@kdfrawg We’re lucky that there’s a Saab specialist only a few miles away, so they are pretty likely to have spares on hand. I don’t know that the date makes much difference, but I’d try to avoid Friday, both because traffic is even worse, and because it’s not uncommon for them to end up running over to the next day.

@hazardwarning If only you could get your MOT certificate that way too. I wouldn’t be planning to spend a good chunk of tomorrow sitting in traffic jams.
