@kdfrawg Exactly. Not that the ones supplied by Apple have been great, and if it postpones me spending a couple of thousand pounds for two or three years, then it would be worthwhile.

I don’t really care how long it can run on batteries, because I’m always within reach of a power socket, so it’s not urgent.

@kdfrawg Assuming I can keep it alive with this battery for a bit longer, I wonder if it’s really worth spending the money and effort on this one. Maybe I should get a desktop again & not have all these battery problems to deal with.

@kdfrawg The independent Apple repair shop in town said they couldn’t get them, so it would be a matter of trusting some Chinese eBay seller.

@kdfrawg No, I tried to buy a battery, but didn’t actually get one.

@kdfrawg I tried to get a new one in December, but Apple have discontinued them, so the options are:

  • buy something on the internet and hope it doesn’t explode;
  • run it till it dies then buy a new laptop;
  • run it till it dies then remove the battery and accept the OS throttling.

@kdfrawg It’s 3½ years old, so new in the sense that it’s not the original one, but not very new.

How can you find third party batteries that are decent quality?

It’s at 500 cycles, and they quote 80% at 1000 cycles.
