@kdfrawg That part sounds good — though I suspect a lot of the scenery would be a bit dry for my taste. These days I’d worry about what people were around, or the ones you’d have to go past to get there.

Pancakes and mushrooms all consumed. I did some ordinary crêpe-style ones and some buckwheat galettes.
@kdfrawg Very nice! And given my mother would probably have more fun with the alternative plan anyway, we might well do that.

Just made pancake batter ready for tea. We have trompettes de mort and girolles.
@kdfrawg I’ve been wishing for it for years! Last year I just hated the prospect of it all, but I knew there wouldn’t be many more. My uncle, who was there, is dead now, and my father is in a nursing home and can only eat puréed food, so gritting my teeth and doing it last year was the right choice.

@kdfrawg I’m not sure it would feature in my wish list of places to spend Christmas.
// @hazardwarning
@hazardwarning We’d probably go up straight after Christmas anyway, because she has a birthday then. We had years of taking my mother in law to America, then when she couldn’t manage that, having her here, then going to see her, then staying with my family for years, gradually taking over more of the work as they got older. A chance to avoid all that is really tempting.

@hazardwarning If we went up for Christmas, it would probably be just the three of us, so a lot less fun for her, and we’d have to cook a trad dinner. At home we’d have whatever we wanted. It seems like decades since we’ve had a Christmas at home, just doing what we want.

@hazardwarning We’re undecided between Christmas at home on our own, or going to stay with my mother. If we don’t go, she’ll go to my nephew’s where there’ll be lots of people and babies for dinner, then we’d go up a day or two later.
