@matigo There are a lot more small or single-person households these days as well, so there have been way more new houses built recently than the population numbers might have suggested.

@matigo Same general idea. A lot of people on an island. There’s some space left in Scotland and Wales, but large chunks of England are rather full.

@matigo Most places in England aren’t very far from a town by car, so the main difference to me is whether you can walk to the shops & restaurants. If you have to get the car out, it doesn’t make that much difference whether it’s 10 minutes or 30.
Even living quite close to town doesn’t help much if it’s not walkable — when my mother in law was staying, I had to drive her around because she couldn’t walk much. A ten minute walk in town took me 45 minutes in the car, because of traffic and one way systems. So the choice for us is town centre (then choosing the size of town) or somewhere green.

@matigo We’re torn on that one. I love the countryside. Mr I loves towns. Up to now we’ve been in town because he needs to be able to get to London for work, but when he retires we have a free choice.

@kdfrawg Maybe you should plant another one. I don’t know how fast willows grow, but at least future generations could enjoy it.
