I’ve got a lamb shoulder simmering in the oven. There’s way more than two of us can eat, so most of it will end up parcelled up in the freezer.

I’ve just been reading Gary Taubes’s book about sugar.

//

Funny the food things that don’t travel!

You’re making me want porridge now. Only not with soya & sucralose. :)

//

When we were doing low carb, I tried them all and settled on not bothering. I think they just have some note that I particularly dislike. I seem to notice it now even more than I used to.

//

I think sucralose is one of those things that tastes like sugar to some people and utterly weird to others. It tastes horrid to me, and overwhelms the flavour of anything else. If it tasted that way to everybody, it would never have made it to market, so I assume it doesn’t.

//

I followed quite a tight low carb diet for several years, and tried most of the substitutes, which is how I know I’d rather do without than use some of them.

//

I dislike the taste of both, so I’d rather do without.

//

I can’t think of any circumstances that would get me to add soy milk or sucralose to anything. Other than trying awfully hard not to offend my host, or being close to starvation. I could handle the peaches, though it’s not something I naturally think of with porridge.

I suspect I’d prefer it without the vanilla, soymilk, sucralose or peaches.
