@kdfrawg I blew up a mixer on my first attempt to make it. Its poor puny little motor couldn’t cope. It blew out clouds of smoke then died.

I don’t mind it once in a while. Anywhere with pretensions serves their hamburgers on brioche these days. They try so hard to be different while slavishly copying one another.

Bembo is a gundog breed, so I suppose that, like hunting dogs, they need to be able to find things. When we do scent work classes with him there are always a lot of spaniels. The King Charles one wasn’t great at it. He could smell ok, but kept forgetting what he was supposed to be looking for.

@kdfrawg That must be for Texan-style BIG bread!

@kdfrawg He was.

He got a bit scared this morning when we were out. We go to a small park near the farmers’ market & a dog, about his size, raced over. They chased for a bit, but as he slowed down the other one caught up & went for the throat. Not a real attack, but more rough play than B likes, and didn’t want to let go. Luckily the owner turned up and called her dog back. She said he’s half staffie & she generally only lets him play with similar breeds. B is too much of a softie for those street-wise types!

He did! It always amazes me. They’re not strongly scented — I just store them in a tin with a tsp of catnip in a muslin bag at the bottom. Usually they’re hidden in the main part of the garden where there are some shrubs & bamboo, but this time I tucked one behind a drainpipe on the outside wall of the house. When I let him out of the house, he went racing towards the shrubs, then skidded to a halt, turned back to the house & went straight to the mouse.

Dogs can detect a whole world-view that is just not there for us.

I’m not sure. Maybe if you sent me a slice…

Sounds as if you like it. :)

I use baking parchment too. I usually put a baking tray in to preheat, then slide the bread, still on the parchment, onto it. We have some Le Creuset pizza “stones” that would probably be better. I vary on the water. I was planning to do it this time.

I’d class that as an enriched bread, along with hot cross buns, brioche & assorted international variations.
