@kdfrawg I need to decide whether to run it with no battery; try the battery that kept crashing again; spend another £100 or so on a new one that might not keep crashing; or raid the piggy bank for a new computer.

First I’ll look inside and assess it.

I think my MBP battery is starting to bulge. :(

@kdfrawg When I was little, my grandparents had a parrot. It wasn’t exactly restful though, and it hated men.

@kdfrawg It’s not what I’d choose for day to day use either, but the lightweight bootable thingie is pretty nifty. We might install it on my old machine that’s currently running XP.

Some of what’s still wrong with computers:

I needed to make a bootable DVD for Mr I. Looked for instructions and found this discussion:

Person 1, having come from a Windows background had struggled, and posted the solution he found, “here's what to do:
Insert a blank disc.
Start Disk Utility.
From the File menu, choose Open Disk Image and select the ISO to be burned.
In the list of volumes, you will now see an item representing the ISO file. Select it.
Click the Burn button and follow the instructions.”

Person 2: “might be easier : $ hdiutil burn image.iso”

Person 3: “1. Right-click on .iso file
2. Select "burn image””

I went with person 3’s solution. The first one was ok, but there are just far too many people who think that because they spend all day coding, a normal person who just needs to do this stuff once every few years is going to remember the commands.

@kdfrawg I need some too. I’ve never had cherry pie.

That’s lucky!

@kdfrawg Mr I got me to download a bootable Linux installation for him yesterday to see what he could recover from his sick computer. It looked quite nice as a set of emergency tools.

I hope you can stop your two visitors from trying to play together!

@kdfrawg Yes. About 3°C, I think.
